How Does It Work

Sea freight is a cost-effective way to transport large quantities of goods internationally by ship.

Here is a step-by-step explanation of the process:

  • Booking and Preparation: The shipper arranges the shipment with a freight forwarder or carrier. Necessary documents (e.g., invoice, packing list, Bill of Lading) are prepared, and goods are securely packed, usually in containers (e.g., 20ft or 40ft).
  • Transport to the port of origin: Goods are transported to the departure port using trucks or trains. The freight forwarder handles logistics coordination.
  • Customs and Loading at the port: Goods go through customs clearance in the country of origin, and containers are loaded onto the ship.
  • Sea Transport: The vessel transports the goods from the port of origin to the port of destination. Transit time depends on the shipping route, distance, and weather conditions.
  • Arrival at the Destination Port: Containers are unloaded from the ship, and goods are cleared through customs in the destination country. Applicable import duties, taxes, and port charges are paid.
  • Final Delivery: Once cleared, goods are transported by road or rail to the recipient’s location. The recipient inspects the goods to confirm their condition.
